Unfortunately, this grand old sycamore needed to come down.

As you can see the base of the trunk was rotten and it was just a matter of time before a storm would take it down along with power lines and injury/death to anyone in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The main part of the tree fell along a line drawn from the camera to the white school house in the background. The time of impact was 11:22 EST or 16:22 UT.

It occurred to me just before the tree fell, that our seismograph should pick the impact up since it was only ~1/4 mile( 0.4 Km) away…..

Notice the blue spike(red arrow) goes all the way up past the 10:00-12:00 line.

Now look at all the other, spikes….

The earth may rest ….. (See between 4:00-12:00 UTC…That would be between 11 PM and 7AM local time)

BUT it never sleeps.

NOTE: The flat line from 20:00 to almost 23:00 was when all the local stations went off line for a few days…Not sure what the problem was during that “snooze” 😉

Thank you for taking down the tree before Mother Nature got to it. We had the brother of a close friend who was recently killed in a freak accident by an old tree that fell due to high winds in Lakewood, OH. He was innocently driving along the W. 150th exit ramp when it fell onto his car in an instant. You may have just saved a life by taking the tree down.

Thanks for sharing your story, Jeff. I must confess, the tree was not on our property but we do know the owner. We will relay your message to her. The crew that did the work was fantastic. In this area, it is understood….”Call Lee Groll.”
